Facebook – People’s Billboard

graphic - study the bible with online sentence sermons

People use Facebook to tell the world the good in their life. We don’t like to tell ‘bad news’ – the difficult stuff.

Have you ever wondered what Facebook would be like in Bible times?

For example: What King Solomon’s Facebook page would be like, just telling the positive things in his life and nothing about the negative.

One of the many things we love about the Bible is that it tells about the good and the bad (the truth).

We are reminded of a passage in Romans 15:4 that teaches the things that were written previously were written for our instruction that we might have hope through the patience and encouragement of the scriptures.

We learn valuable lessons about the good and bad in people’s lives.

Jazeb’s Prayer (I Chronicles 4:10)

“Jabez cried out to the God of Israel, ‘Oh, that you would bless me and enlarge my territory! Let your hand be with me, and keep me from harm so that I will be free from pain.’ And God granted his request.”

This was preserved for our learning. (Romans 15:4)

Lessons Learned:

  • All good blessings are from God. (James 1:17)

  • His blessings are out there. ( Matt.5:3-12)

  • Sometimes we do not have because we fail to ask. (James 4:2)

Pray, Pray, Pray.

The number 40 generally symbolizes a period of testing, trial, or probation. The number 40 can also represent a generation of man.

A few examples:

Abraham at first tried to bargain with God not to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah if 40 righteous people were found. (Gen. 18:29)

Both Isaac and Esau were 40 years old when they were first married.

After the patriarch Jacob died in Egypt, the Egyptians spent 40 days embalming his body. (Gen. 50:3)

Moses lived 40 years in Egypt and forty years in the desert before he was selected by God to lead his people out of slavery.

Moses was on Mount Sinai for 40 days and nights on two separate occasions.

Moses sent spies for 40 days to spy out the land God had promised the Israelites as an inheritance.

The prophet Jonah warned ancient Nineveh for 40 days.

The prophet Ezekiel laid on his right side for 40 days to symbolize Judah’s sins. (Ezekiel 4:6)

Many of the judges and kings served 40 years.

Elijah went 40 days without food or water at Mount Horeb.

Jesus fasted 40 days and nights. (Matt) 4:2)

Jesus was seen of the apostles 40 days after his resurrection before his ascension back to heaven. (Acts 1:2ff)
